New South Wales is being hit by the worst storms in over a decade so there is no going out today, I think a nice warm Mulled Wine is in order!!! Normally a Christmas drink, but I don’t care, as the outside world can stay there while I get warmed up on this spicy delicious drop!!! Enjoy
A dry red wine (we used a Bordeaux)
2 cinnamon sticks
12 whole cloves
Sugar to taste
Step 1:Pour one bottle of red into a small to medium sized pot and turn the flame to the lowest setting.
Step 2: Cut 1 orange into half inch slices (don’t cut them too thin or they’ll fall apart in the wine).
Step 3: Throw the orange slices, cinnamon sticks, cloves and 2-3 lemon peel strips into the pot.
Step 4: Simmer everything on the lowest setting for 40 minutes with the top on. Make sure that the wine only simmers and doesn’t boil (it will cook off all the alcohol). After 40 minutes turn off the flame and let the wine and ingredients sit for another hour. Step 5: Take all the ingredients out of the wine.Step 6: Pour the mulled wine into a short glass or mug. Add sugar to taste (approximately 1-2 tsp per cup).
